San Diego Humane Society Helps Pets Displaced By Historic Storm

The Humane Society asked for donations of dog food, leashes, collars and slip leads. The organization also needs foster families for pets.

SAN DIEGO, CA — San Diego Humane Society continues to help animals displaced by the recent storm and support flood victims caring for their pets.

Since last Monday's storm, San Diego Humane Society has partnered with the American Red Cross to operate a temporary shelter for pets at Lincoln High School at 4777 Imperial Ave. in San Diego.

The shelter offers pet food and limited supplies, temporary shelter for displaced pets, and additional resources. As of Saturday, there were 17 evacuated pets at the shelter, including nine dogs, seven birds and a rabbit, according to Humane Society spokesperson Nina Thompson.

On Saturday, the organization's humane officers and emergency response team looked for animals left behind during the flooding and provided food and resources to dozens of families with pets in the Southcrest, Mountain View, Logan Heights and Shelltown neighborhoods, Thompson said.

Residents who are unable to find their pet or left their pet behind when evacuating can call 619-299-7012 and press 1 for dispatch.
