San Diego Weekend Guide: Chula Vista HarborFest; San Diego Book Festival; Super Girl Surf Festival

SAN DIEGO, CA — To keep your weekend fun and lively, Patch has rounded up some entertaining events going on throughout the San Diego region — from the southern border, to East County, through beach towns, to the uppermost points of North County and communities in between.

Whether you opt for an activity close to home or a mini day trip, see what's slated this weekend from Saturday, Aug. 22 to Sunday, Aug. 23.

Bayside Brews & BBQ Returns

• When: Select dates through Sept. 7
• Where: SeaWorld San Diego, San Diego
• What: The festival features a new concert series, craft beers from local and regional breweries, and barbecue-inspired dishes and loaded comfort foods.

Chula Vista HarborFest

• When: Aug. 22
• Where: Bayside Park, Chula Vista
• What: The event offers live music, water activities, food stops, interactive family zones, and brand new activities to celebrate the bay.

KPBS San Diego Book Festival

• When: Aug. 22
• Where: University of San Diego, San Diego
• What: The event features panel discussions with authors, activities, live entertainment, and exhibitors including local authors and independent booksellers.

Lego Festival

• When: Through Aug. 30
• Where: Legoland California Resort, Carlsbad
• What: The festival features interactive play zones, live entertainment and hands-on building activities to the theme park. This year's festival features Music, Creative, Chill-Out, Thrill and Play zones.

National City Cars and Culture Festival

• When: Aug. 23
• Where: Kimball Park, National City
• What: The free event offers a car show, live music, food vendors, local crafts and a kids' zone.

Sesame Summer Splash

• When: Through Sept. 7
• Where: Sesame Place San Diego, Chula Vista
• What: The theme park offers over 18 rides and attractions, live entertainment and more.

Super Girl Surf Festival

• When: Aug. 21-23
• Where: Junior Seau Oceanside Pier Amphitheatre and Oceanside Municipal Pier, Oceanside
• What: The free festival includes a surfing competition and a festival village with female-inspired vendors, activities and entertainment.
