SD County Meals On Wheels' Annual Gala To Go Virtual

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — Meals on Wheels San Diego County has adjusted plans for its “Cheers to 60 Years” gala, moving this year's fundraiser to a virtual format on May 8.

A festive atmosphere is still on the online agenda, with plans for live and silent auctions, an opera-singing chef, musical performances and surprise guests.

The event will run that Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and registration is free and open to all. It was planned for June 13 at Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina on Harbor Island Drive.

"The sign of the times may have changed the way things are done, but the goal remains the same, to raise critical funds to support the independence and well-being of over 3,200 homebound seniors in San Diego County," the agency said.

The nonprofit, which has served the region for 60 years, hopes to raise $300,000 for seniors with the 2020 fundraiser.

"This is important, now more than ever, with so many older adults in the community confined to their homes causing the demand for service to skyrocket," the organization said.

The virtual gala's auctions with be emceed by renowned auctioneer Clint Bell. Also planned for entertainment is the opera-singing chef, Elizabeth Podsiadlo, and Daniel Delacruz, known as "DeLa," a saxophonist with the band Slightly Stoopid.

Meals on Wheels San Diego County invites the community to "have a fun night 'together.' Dress up for the occasion and zoom your 'table,' or join us in your jammies - but whatever you do, don't forget to join the 'Cheers to 60 Years Gala!'"
