SAN DIEGO, CA — Officials have proposed placing a man designated as a sexually violent predator into a home in San Diego County.

The California Department of State Hospitals recommended David Munoz, 58, for placement at a home at 45612 Old Highway 80 in Jacumba Hot Springs, where he would live under supervision. He is classified as a sexually violent predator, a designation for those convicted of sexually violent offenses and diagnosed with a mental disorder that makes a person likely to reoffend.

Munoz was convicted of molesting a 12-year-old girl in 1988 and a 2-year-old girl in 1992, according to the San Diego County District Attorney's Office. He attempted to assault three other victims. He was sentenced in 1992 to 11 years in state prison, and was later committed to Coalinga State Hospital.

After serving their prison sentences, sexually violent predators undergo treatment at state hospitals, but may also petition courts to continue treatment in outpatient locations, where they have to wear a GPS monitor as part of their supervision.

A hearing is scheduled May 3 before San Diego Superior Court Judge David Gill, who will determine if the proposed site is suitable.
