Small Brush Fire Starts In Homeless Camp In San Ysidro

SDFD was assisted by fire department crews from the cities of Chula Vista, Coronado, National City and Poway.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A brush fire Monday in the San Ysidro neighborhood burned about a quarter-acre, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The fire that started in a homeless encampment and spread to nearby vegetation was first reported just after 8:45 a.m., at San Ysidro Boulevard and Cottonwood Road, SDFD officials said.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze shortly after 9 a.m.

A three-story apartment complex being threatened by the fire was evacuated but was not damaged. There were no injuries reported.
