Woman Killed in Corridor-Area Hit and Run Identified

SAN DIEGO, CA: A woman who died Wednesday when she was struck by a vehicle in Corridor was identified Thursday by police.

Jazmine Leigh Ruiz, 29, was also physically assaulted prior to the hit and run, according to San Diego police Lt. Manny Del Toro.

As such, detectives are investigating her death as a homicide, Del Toro said.

Ruiz was struck about 10 a.m. Wednesday in an alley in the 4100 block of Wilson Avenue, near City Heights.

Emergency personnel arrived and found her under a vehicle "with extensive injuries to her upper body," the lieutenant said. She was pulled out from under the vehicle and administered first aid by paramedics, to no avail.

The west part of the alley was closed for several hours Wednesday as detectives spoke with neighbors and other citizens.

"After gathering witness statements and assessing the scene, it appeared the driver of the vehicle intentionally drove into the female," Del Toro said.

Two Hispanic men in their 20s and a Hispanic woman who was possibly covered in blood, fled the scene of the incident on foot by running southbound in the alley, authorities said Wednesday.
