• 2nd man sentenced in fatal Pacoima shooting of homeless man during drug deal (dailynews.com) — A 25-year-old man has been sentenced in San Fernando Superior Court to 29 years to life for the fatal shooting of a homeless man in nearby Pacoima during a drug deal gone wrong. His co-defendant previously received a much longer term, and the case drew attention after changes in state law led to the other man's murder convictions being vacated and his release from custody.
   

• Nov. 8: Deadline to Enter Youth Concerto Competition, Grades 6-12 (scvnews.com) — Young musicians connected to the San Fernando West Valley MTAC branch can now apply for the 2026 Youth Concerto Competition, with audition recordings due November 8. Open to grades 6–12 on piano, winds, strings, brass, and percussion, the contest offers a chance to solo with the Santa Clarita Symphony Orchestra on March 14, 2027. Details and requirements are available online for families planning ahead.
