York, who runs day-to-day operations for the San Francisco franchise, accepted responsibility, entered a plea to lesser misdemeanor charges, and will miss several games before returning to the team later in October.

Pile of illegal fireworks explode on San Francisco beach (amedpost.com) β San Francisco residents were startled Saturday night when hundreds of illegal fireworks exploded in an unsanctioned show on Ocean Beach, despite the city's total fireworks ban. The brief but intense display drew mixed reactions, from awe to anger over noise, frightened pets, and trash, and renewed attention to stricter fines and enforcement against illegal fireworks citywide.

San Francisco Democratic Party Chair Apologizes After Sexual Assault Policy 'Broke Down' (kqed.org) β San Francisco's Democratic Party chair Nancy Tung has apologized for how the party handled sexual assault allegations against former District 8 supervisor candidate Manny Yekutiel, whose endorsement is now being reconsidered. With Yekutiel out of the race, attention is shifting to remaining candidates like Gary McCoy as the party prepares for an Oct. 11 meeting to revisit endorsements and tighten its misconduct policy.

The Great California ShakeOut Tour 2026 (ca.gov) β San Francisco residents can experience a simulated 7.0-magnitude earthquake and get preparedness tips when the Great California ShakeOut Tour kicks off at San Francisco State University on October 12. The statewide campaign promotes the MyShake app, early warning alerts, and the "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" drill planned for 10:15 a.m. on October 15.
