Police say impairment is not suspected for the Toyota driver, and this marks the city’s 41st traffic death this year, sharply higher than at this time in 2025.
   

• Growing beaver population could impact salmon along San Jose's Guadalupe River (nbcbayarea.com) — Beavers are increasingly settling along San Jose’s Guadalupe River, and their growing dams could both help and hinder local salmon runs. A clean-creeks coalition is urging the Santa Clara Valley Water District to find a balanced solution that protects salmon habitat while allowing the beavers to remain part of the South Bay ecosystem.
   

• San Jose man charged with illegally voting says he's never voted (mercurynews.com) — A San Jose resident and lawful permanent resident from Georgia faces federal charges alleging he illegally voted in the 2024 election and lied on naturalization forms, accusations he firmly denies. The case, tied to a broader federal sweep and involving Santa Clara County’s Registrar of Voters, raises questions about noncitizen voting claims and how local election records are being scrutinized.
