Tech company strikes deal to buy former IBM campus in San Jose hills (mercurynews.com) — A major tech affiliate of Blackstart Digital is buying IBM’s former hilltop campus at 650 Harry Road, aiming to turn it into a modern research and startup hub while preserving surrounding open space. After the San Jose City Council rezoned the site for industrial park use, the company is promising local jobs, new tax revenue, and a full public process with neighbors and conservation groups.
   

2. Two Men Charged with Hate Crimes for Anti-gay Slur-filled Attack on San Jose State Campus (sanjoseinside.com) — Two men from Sunnyvale and Fremont have been charged with felony assault and hate crime enhancements after an alleged anti-gay attack on a San Jose State student and his friend on the downtown campus. University police arrested the suspects at the scene, and the Santa Clara County District Attorney says the case is among 14 hate crimes filed so far this year.
   

3. San Jose ‘racist Karen' grins for cameras in bizarre court visit (amedpost.com) — A San Jose woman at the center of a viral confrontation is facing hate-crime and stalking charges after repeatedly accusing a father of sex trafficking his young daughter. San Jose Unified and local police say they’re also investigating reports she harassed people on a district campus, including allegedly entering a girls’ locker room, as multiple related cases move through the courts.
   

4. K-pop star postpones Bay Area concert, entire North American tour over visa issues (sfchronicle.com) — Fans in San Jose who bought tickets to Taemin’s Oct. 12 SAP Center show will need to change plans, as the K-pop star has postponed his entire North American tour over visa delays for key staff. Organizers say new dates and venues will be announced later, and current ticket holders can get refunds through their original point of purchase.
   

5. Governor Newsom Signs Bill to Revitalize Cities With Downtown Housing (cayimby.org) — San Jose is one of seven large California cities affected by a new state law, AB 2074, aimed at jump-starting downtown housing near transit. The measure sets taller baseline height limits and streamlines approvals for qualifying high-rise residential projects, while ordering a state review of financing tools to support these developments.
