Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. San Jose backs off downtown parking meter hikes after backlash, raises garage rates instead (mercurynews.com) — Downtown San Jose drivers will avoid higher evening meter rates, but should expect steeper garage fees after the City Council reversed course following strong pushback from businesses and workers. The new plan raises hourly and event parking in city garages starting in October, while leaving a $1.2 million budget gap that officials must confront in next year's budget.
2. San Jose Diridon Station Set to Become Transportation Gateway of the Future As Senator Cortese's SB 1375 is Signed into Law (ca.gov) — San Jose's long-planned transformation of Diridon Station just got a major boost, as a new state law streamlines environmental review for the massive transit hub while keeping key protections in place. The change is meant to speed construction of a cleaner, better-connected station linking BART, Caltrain, high‑speed rail and other systems, potentially reshaping commuting, housing and economic growth for San Jose residents.
3. 'Surveillance is not safety': Protesters push San Jose to shut down Flock camera network (nbcbayarea.com) — San Jose residents are in the middle of a heated fight over the city's 500‑camera license plate reader network, with protesters demanding it be shut down and officials instead weighing tighter rules. A council committee has asked staff to return with options to revamp the system, meaning upcoming public hearings could shape how police use this technology in your neighborhood.
4. 2 Dallas men arrested in alleged cryptocurrency-targeted robbery attempt in San Jose (abc7news.com) — San Jose police say two Dallas men have been arrested in Texas after allegedly posing as delivery workers and attempting an armed robbery at a South San Jose home, apparently targeting a resident's cryptocurrency wealth. Detectives used license plate reader data and partnered with multiple agencies to track the suspects, who remain jailed in Texas awaiting extradition as investigators probe possible related Bay Area crimes.
