Developer can finally build homes in SLO County beach town, CA Supreme Court rules (sanluisobispo.com) — A California Supreme Court ruling means Shear Development can finally move forward with building three homes in Los Osos under a 2019 permit issued by San Luis Obispo County. The unanimous decision limits when the Coastal Commission can override local coastal plans, and confirms that this particular Los Osos property is not classified as environmentally sensitive habitat under the county’s current Local Coastal Program.
   

2. Earthquake measuring 2.0 shakes area close to Lake Nacimiento, CA on April 22 (sacbee.com) — A minor 2.0 magnitude earthquake shook part of San Luis Obispo County near Lake Nacimiento on Wednesday afternoon, but quakes this small are rarely felt or damaging. Still, officials remind residents to be ready to drop, cover, and hold on, and to report any shaking they noticed to the U.S. Geological Survey’s online “Felt Report.”
   

3. Mahjong mania: New clubs bring players together in San Luis Obispo (ksby.com) — New Mahjong clubs in San Luis Obispo are drawing dozens of locals to regular social play nights and lessons, many hosted by the Ah Louis Store’s Mahjong Social Club. Organizers say players are finding screen-free connection, while beginners can drop in for open play, group lessons, or private instruction for larger parties.

Filmmaker honors father Danny Gans in emotional documentary set to premiere at SLO Film Festival (keyt.com) — San Luis Obispo film lovers can catch a new documentary about Las Vegas entertainer Danny Gans premiering at the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival this weekend. Directed by his son Andrew, the film explores grief, family, and legacy, with screenings at Downtown Centre Cinemas and the Palm Theatre from Saturday through Monday.
