1. First case of measles in San Luis Obispo County (mustangnews.net) — Health officials have confirmed the first measles case in San Luis Obispo County, with possible exposure at several local locations earlier this month and symptom risk lasting up to 21 days. Cal Poly and County Public Health are urging residents, especially students in dense housing, to monitor for rash and other symptoms, wear masks if exposed, and consider getting the MMR vaccine or calling the county health line for guidance.
   

2. City of SLO Earns Statewide Recognition for Climate Leadership (slochamber.org) — San Luis Obispo has earned a statewide Beacon Leadership and Innovation Award for expanding clean-energy upgrades to low-income residents, especially those in manufactured homes. The city now wants your input at a November 4 Climate Action Plan workshop at the SLO Library, where residents can help shape future climate goals, transportation improvements, and sustainability programs.
   

3. Warming centers to open in San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay amid rainy weather (ksby.com) — San Luis Obispo’s warming center at 40 Prado Road opens tonight from 7 to 9 p.m., offering overnight shelter, hot showers, and meals for registered guests amid expected rain. Capacity is limited, and organizers are urgently seeking volunteers and donations, especially warm blankets, sleeping bags, tents, and rain gear to support unhoused neighbors across the county.
   

4. Veterans museum seeks community support as HVAC project could force months-long closure (ksby.com) — San Luis Obispo’s Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum may have to close from mid-November through at least April or May 2027 while the county installs a new HVAC system in the Veterans Memorial Building. Museum leaders are urgently seeking local donations, storage space, and volunteers to safely move and protect thousands of artifacts focused on Central Coast veterans’ stories.
   

5. People's Kitchen feeds hungry, builds community (cuestonian.com) — At 40 Prado in San Luis Obispo, People’s Kitchen serves free hot lunches every day, dishing up more than 30,000 meals a year to anyone who’s hungry. Run entirely by volunteers and led by longtime nurse-educator Mary Parker, the group partners with Cuesta College and invites residents and students to join rotating service teams that cook, serve, and build community together.
