Sounds of Summer: Lionsgate Edition Sound Bath Journey 

Come enjoy great music and a message of hope as we explore favorite Broadway musicals and deeper spiritual themes in our annual “God on Broadway” series.&nbsp; Shows in this year’s series are: "The Lion King” (August 2), “Man of La Mancha” (August 9), “The Music Man” (August 16), and “Maybe Happy Ending” (August 23).&nbsp; Our pianist/composer John Steiner and guest musicians will perform songs from each production.
Rev. Cynthia Cochran-Carney will explore meaningful and humorous connections between Broadway shows and biblical stories,saying “The arts inform all aspects of our lives, including our spiritual lives.Many of the musicals look at challenging social issues, including racism, poverty, exploitation, and diversity.&nbsp; In this time of polarization and division, the arts can open us up to see joys and challenges from someone else’s perspective.”
Sing, laugh and learn valuable life lessons with us in the sanctuary on Sundays in August at 9:30 am at First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael, 1510 Fifth Avenue.&nbsp; The building is handicap accessible.&nbsp; The services are livestreamed on YouTube.

With&nbsp;Dirty Souls, Wreckless Strangers return to their rock-and-roll roots, delivering their rawest and most visceral studio effort to date. The six-song collection channels the arena rock spirit of the ’70s and ’80s that shaped the band’s earliest influences while bringing a fresh, modern edge to the sound. This summer, we are thrilled to celebrate Valley Games X, the tenth anniversary of this one-of-a-kind event that could only happen here in the San Geronimo Valley.
Part Olympics, part block party, and entirely Valley-style, the Valley Games have become one of the Community Center’s most beloved traditions — bringing together neighbors of all ages for a day of friendly competition, laughter, teamwork, and unforgettable community memories.
Held on Saturday, August 29, Valley Games X is a family-friendly event where Valley villages compete in Olympic-style games for glory across a wildly entertaining lineup of events, including Cornhole, Hacky Sack, Ping Pong, Chess, Baking, an Obstacle Course, Basketball Hot Spot, and more.
Representing villages from across the Valley, teams including the Lagunitas Lightning, Forest Knolls Trolls, San Geronimo Running Salmon, Woodacre Wild Turkeys, Nicasio Newts, and the Townies will come together for a full day of camaraderie, community spirit, and good-natured rivalry.
New to the Valley Games? It’s easy to join the fun. Teams are made up based on the village you live in — or identify with — so simply sign yourself or your family up, and we’ll place you on your village team the day of the event.As Valley Games X marks ten years of community fun, this year’s celebration also honors someone who has helped shape the spirit behind the event from the very beginning: the Community Center’s own Helen Ferlino. To top off the festivities, beloved Bay Area band New Monsoon will rock the Community Center Courtyard for an afternoon birthday celebration.
