Featuring more than 100 artworks, Monet and Venice at the de Young Museum places Monet’s Venice paintings alongside select works from across his career as well as Venetian views by artists such as Renoir, Sargent, and Canaletto. Where other artists captured Venice’s bustle, Monet’s Venice is eerily deserted, its architecture and canals dissolving in an encompassing, hazy light. Maureen O’Brien, a docent at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, will showcase pieces of this special exhibition and explore how Monet’s Venice paintings are among his most dazzling.
