Central Marin Among 50 Safest Cities In CA: Report

MARIN COUNTY, CA – Central Marin is among the 50 safest cities in California, according to a new report by SafeWise. Central Marin came in 19th, while Novato landed the 45th spot on the list.

To compile the list, SafeWise analysts reviewed the 2016 FBI crime report statistics and census population data. The evaluation was based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape and robbery) in each city per 1,000 people. If there was a tie, they also factored in the number of property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and car theft). Cities that fell below identified population thresholds or failed to submit a complete FBI crime report were excluded from the ranking system.

In Central Marin, there are 35,265 residents, but only 1.08 violent crimes per 1,000 people and 18.60 property crimes per 1,000 people, according to SafeWise. There are 56,263 residents living in Novato, but only 1.42 violent crimes per 1,000 people and 18.45 property crimes per 1,000 people.
