Come support the environment September 13 in Kent Woodlands
Captain Planet Foundation and Cool the Earth to Honor Environmentalist Paul Hawken and Environmental Working Group on September 13.

MARIN COUNTY, CALIF. – On Sept. 13, under the redwoods and overlooking the amazing vista of Mt. Tamalpais, 100 of the United States’ deepest green environmental advocates will gather to celebrate the contributions of Environmental Working Group’s Founder and CEO Ken Cook, and environmentalist and author Paul Hawken.
Hosted at Cool the Earth Board Member Kiki Goshay’s stunning LEED Gold-certified home in Marin County, Awakening Future Generations will take place for the second year from 6:00- 10:00 p.m. This eco-benefit will draw celebrities, environmental leaders, eco-education providers, and foodies to benefit two environmental youth-serving organizations making huge contributions to building the next generation of Earth’s eco-heroes.
Laura Turner Seydel, Chairperson of the Captain Planet Foundation, will recognize the accomplishments of Ken Cook. Seydel, daughter of philanthropist and restaurateur Ted Turner, said, “The Captain Planet Foundation is thrilled to be honoring Ken Cook and Environmental Working Group for their advocacy of children’s health and leadership in recognizing and raising the flag about toxins found in commercial foods and products. It was EWG’s core blood study that found 287 industrial chemicals (hormone disrupters, endocrine disrupters and carcinogens) pre-polluting our children through their mothers’ blood. These chemicals, which cause lifelong issues for our children, are impacting them even before they’ve been born.”

Kiki Goshay, Board Member of Cool the Earth, is equally thrilled that Paul Hawken will be receiving the “Superhero of the Earth Award” – an honor that Alice Waters received last year at this same event. “Paul Hawken is, without a doubt, one of the foremost thinkers and writers about the positive role of the environment as an influencer on business growth and innovation. His books have been read and referred to by heads of state around the globe and he is currently providing visionary insight about existing technologies that can dramatically reduce atmospheric carbon. Cool the Earth is honored to be in such great company.”
Iron Horse Vineyards will provide award-winning wines to be paired with seasonal and locally grown ingredients sourced from Marin County and prepared by CaterMarin. Special musical guest LUCE will perform as the sun sets. Sponsors include Environmental Working Group, Goshay Family, Newcomb Anderson McCormick, NewGen Surgical, Nutiva and Open Path Investments.

About the Captain Planet Foundation
Based on the critically-acclaimed animated series “Captain Planet and the Planeteers,” CPF was co-founded in 1991 by media mogul Ted Turner and producer Barbara Pyle. Since then, the Captain Planet Foundation has played a critical role in helping to ensure that the next generation of business leaders and policy makers are environmentally literate citizens who leverage technology and information to manage and protect the land, air and water upon which all life depends.
CPF is a grant-making foundation that has distributed more than $2.5 million to fund over 1,800 hands-on environmental education projects with schools and non-profits that serve children in all 50 U.S. states and in 23 countries. More than one million children have directly participated in and benefited from these educational projects. In addition to its Small Grants Program, the Captain Planet Foundation also operates the following programs: Project Learning Garden, the Leadership Center, SAGES, Planeteer Clubs, and a number of other science education initiatives that exploit the intersections between technology, innovation, the environment and personal action. About Cool the Earth
Cool the Earth is a grassroots, school-to-home program that was founded in 2007 by Marin County parents Carleen and Jeff Cullen, who were inspired to take action after seeing the documentary “An Inconvenient Truth.” Startled at what they learned about climate change, the Cullens gathered parents from their community together to watch screenings of the film and discuss solutions. They found that even when people were exposed to the realities of climate change, they could still remain lethargic, so they set about developing a program, with other parent volunteers from their community, which would motivate households to make changes instantly--what they call, ‘education through action.’
Cool the Earth offers a free, ready-to-run climate change assembly program that educates K-8 students and their families about climate change and inspires them to take simple actions to reduce their carbon emissions. The program is successful because it’s fun and empowering for the kids, and their enthusiasm is contagious! To further engage children and their families, Cool the Earth has developed a new gaming app called Koda Quest. To play the game, kids take real world action to care for their pal Koda. Just as Smokey taught kids to prevent wildfires, Koda, our cuddly polar bear, is here to teach kids “only you can prevent climate change.” For more information: www.cooltheearth.org.
