Drake Sweeps 4x400 Relay Titles at MCAL Meet
Zoe Davis wins two individual events and Bianca Doerschlag and Kam Rothod take one apiece to provide other highlights of the Pirates' performance at the annual championships at Novato High.
Drake High finished in fourth place among the girls and fifth among the boys in the Marin County Athletic League Track and Fields Championships on Saturday, but when it came to the 4x400-meter relay, there was no beating the Pirates.
The girls team of Lily Stander, Bianca Doerschlag, Camila Flowerman and Mari Nakagawa held off a challenge from Novato to capture first place in 4:11.67.
The boys team of Atlas Tanguay, Jordan Killin, Ross MacAusland, and Carroll Oliver also got pushed by Hornets, but wound up winning in 3:27.09.

In all, the Pirates qualified nine girls, eight boys and three relay teams for this weekend’s North Coast Section Redwood Empire Championships at Rancho Cotate High.
Doerschlag won an individual event (800, 2:21.32) and Zoe Davis was victorious in two (shot put, 36-1; discus, 102-11) to propel the Pirates to fourth place in the team standings with 85 points. Redwood won the girls title with 113 1/3.

Flowerman, Stander and Nakagawa also contributed to the 4x100 team (along with Alex Sonnet) finishing third in 51.55.
Those four also had individual success – Flowerman in the 100 hurdles (second, 16.72) and triple jump (fourth, 31-6 ¾), Stander in the 400 (sixth, 1:02.25), Nakagawa in the 400 (fifth, 1:02.04) and Sonnet in the 100 (fourth, 12.85) and 200 (sixth, 27.14).
Also qualifying for the Redwood Empire meet in individual events were Kaylee Weber (second in the shot put, 32-7 ½; third in the discus, 83-9), Alanna Hamilton (fifth in the shot put, 30-0; fifth in the discus, 82-1) and Summer Lawson (sixth in the 800, 2:40.52).
Kam Rothod was the individual standout as the boys finished a distant fifth to Terra Linda with 52 points. He won the triple jump at 39-10 ¾.
Carroll Oliver (800, 1:56.63) and John Lawson (3,200, 9:44.75) were second-place finishers for Drake.
Others headed to Rancho Cotate this weekend are: Erik Rogne (fourth in the shot put, 43-1; fifth in the discus, 121-06), Dash Stander (sixth in the shot put, 41-2), Ross MacAusland (fourth in the 100, 11.35), Will Baker-Robinson (fourth in the 3,200, final results for the 3,200 are being finalized) and Andy Bostian (fifth in the pole vault, 10-6).
