Hearing to Begin for Duo Accused of Murdering Marin Therapist, Canadian Tourist
A third defendant in the 2015 killings of Steven Carter and Audrey Carey is expected to testify against Morrison Lampley and Lila Alligood.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — Testimony will begin Tuesday at the trial of two drifters who are charged with the murders of a Marin County therapist and a Canadian tourist nearly a year ago.
Morrison Haze Lampley, 24, of San Francisco, and Lila Scott Alligood, 19, of San Rafael, are charged with killing Audrey Carey, 23, of Quebec, Canada on Oct. 2 and Steven Carter, 67, of Marin County on Oct. 5.
Carey was shot in Golden Gate Park and Carter was shot while hiking in the Loma Alta Open Space Reserve near Fairfax. The prosecution alleges Lampley was the gunman.

The prosecution also has charged the defendants with special circumstances of lying in wait, multiple murders and murder while committing a robbery. Lampley and Alligood face life in prison without the possibility of parole instead of the death penalty for the crimes.
A third defendant named Sean Michael Angold of San Francisco, now 25, also was charged with the murders, but he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and faces a 15-year prison sentence after the trial.

Judge Kelly V. Simmons this month denied a defense motion to at least partially close the hearing to the public to prevent statements by Alligood that might incriminate Lampley's right to a fair trial.
The three defendants allegedly took Carter's Volkswagen Jetta and refueled it at a Point Reyes gas station.
Investigators tracked the car via its GPS to Portland, Oregon and arrested the defendants at a dining hall there on Oct. 7.
The hearing Tuesday is at 9:45 a.m. in Department K in Marin County Superior Court in San Rafael.
