NORTH BAY, CA — The following is a collection of police, fire and courtroom stories from this week in Marin County and across the North Bay.

A man killed by a falling tree in the Muir Woods National Monument has been identified as Subhradeep Dutta of Minnesota, officials said.

The Sheriff's Office's Search and Rescue team found a woman with dementia who walked away from her Novato home early Monday morning.

A fire over the weekend caused significant damage to a home in the Santa Venetia section of San Rafael, the San Rafael Fire Department said.

The owners of a Petaluma home were displaced Christmas Day when a fire broke out in their kitchen but it could have been much worse.

"... Illegal operations that support the black market for cannabis will be dealt with swiftly and harshly," said City Manager Lorie Tinfow.

CHP has not yet determined what may have caused the driver to go off U.S. Highway 101 and land near a Kaiser Permanente parking lot.

The 42-year-old faces up to 40 years in prison for wire fraud and money laundering in a multi-million-dollar scheme.
