Man Accused of Violent Assault of Woman in San Rafael, Threatening Baby

San Rafael police are investigating the case as a domestic violence issue.

A San Francisco man was arrested Wednesday morning in connection with a Tuesday night domestic violence incident in San Rafael.

Police said the 35-year-old man, who Patch is choosing not to identify for the victim’s privacy, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon, and violating a current domestic violence restraining order.

San Rafael police responded at 9:30 p.m. to Sonoma and Canal streets to a reported domestic violence incident that had just occurred.

Police said the victim had a large laceration to the top of her head, swelling to her right eye, cheeks and nose, and she had contusions to both sides of her face and hands.

Police said she told officers the man, her boyfriend of nine years, physically assaulted her outside her apartment.

She told police he called her as he drove up from San Francisco and sounded intoxicated. She said she left her apartment with her and the man’s three children.

She told police she talked to the man again, and he said he wasn’t coming to the apartment, and she could return their with their children, but when she arrived and got out of her vehicle, she saw him walking toward her.

Police said the man then took the 8-month-old from the victim’s arms as the two other children went to the apartment.

Police said he threatened to throw the baby to the ground if the victim didn’t agree to go into the apartment with him.

She told police she agreed to go with him, but she tried to flee as they headed to the apartment.

Police said the man then violently assaulted her until two nearby residents heard hear screaming and came to help.

Police said he fled the area, but San Rafael and San Francisco police later located him in San Francisco around 3 a.m.
