Marin County Honors Residents, Students With Humanitarian Awards

MARIN COUNTY, CA – The Marin County Human Rights Commission honored five Marin County
residents, including three high school seniors, Thursday night for their impassioned efforts toward human rights.

High school seniors Declan McKenna and Miriam Amador of San Rafael High School and Noah Block of Sir Francis Drake High School were the recipients of the Youth Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award, according to commission group officials.

The three students participate in different activities centered on diversity and acceptance of others, as well as volunteer within their communities.

Dr. Jane Kramar and Rev. Paul Mowry also received the adult Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award during the ceremony.

Dr. Kramar is a musician and the founder and Executive Director of Enriching Lives through Music, an innovative program in the Canal neighborhood of San Rafael.

Commission group officials said more than 120 students participate in free and intensive music programs through ELM, and work with top-notch teachers, mentors and musicians.

Rev. Paul Mowry is pastor of the Sausalito Presbyterian Church, and has been an advocate for the homeless in the LGBTQ and interfaith communities.

Mowry was one of the first openly gay Presbyterian pastors in the nation, commission officials said. He has been the chaplain for the Sausalito Police Department since June 2014.
