Marin Transit, Golden Gate Transit Reach Deal to Extend 40-Year Partnership

A new five-year contract between the two agencies will help meet local transportation needs, officials said.

Marin County Transit has approved a new contract for bus service in the county by Golden Gate Transit.

The five-year contract approved Monday by Marin County Transit’s board of directors also has two one-year options for fixed-route bus service and starts July 1.

The agreement renews Golden Gate Transit’s existing contract for transit services, including nine local bus routes.

The cost of the first year of the contract is $11.4 million and includes 87,500 service hours at $110 per hour, fuel, customer services and other costs. The hourly rate will increase 2.7 percent per year.

Golden Gate Transit will provide about between 83,125 and 91,875 local bus revenue hours of service during the first year of the contract.

“We are happy to extend our successful 40-year partnership with Golden Gate Transit and continue meeting transportation needs of Marin County residents,” Marin County Transit general manager Nancy Whelan said in a statement.
