MMWD Replacing 'Fire-flow Deficient' Pipeline in San Anselmo This Month
The welded steel pipe is replacing an 18-inch cast iron pipe first installed in 1929.

The following is a news release from the Marin Municipal Water District:
The Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) will be installing approximately 830 feet of 18-inch welded steel pipe and 820 feet of 4-inch polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe on Camino de Herrera in San Anselmo to improve fire-fighting capacity and seismic reliability and reduce potential slide problems of the road.
The welded steel pipe is replacing 18-inch cast iron pipe installed in 1929, and the PVC pipe is replacing 2.5-inch galvanized, threaded steel pipe installed in 1956.

Work will begin in mid-October and is estimated to be completed by early December 2014. Both the contractor and MMWD will make every effort to minimize traffic disruptions during construction.
Funding for the district’s Fire Flow Improvement Program is provided by a $75 annual parcel fee. From 1997 through June 30, 2013 the fee has supported the investment of more than $81 million in fire flow and seismic-related improvements and the replacement of more than 70 miles of pipe throughout the district’s service area.
