Paintings of Kate Peper at Marin Coffee Roasters Sponsored by SAAC

Come by Marin Coffee Roasters for a garden of watercolor delight!

Watercolors have been artist Kate Peper’s medium of choice since she was a child. Working in a variety of art-related jobs from graphic and rug designer to animator, all of these vocations have drawn upon her passion for watercolor, and in turn have all inspired her paintings.

A Ross Valley local for nearly 20 years, Ms. Peper feels truly blesses to be surrounded by so much natural beauty, as well as an amazing array of gifted artists. Kate muses. “I am excited by gardens of all kinds, in whatever state of glory or disrepair. I also like contrasts and am naturally drawn to the push and pull between extreme dark and light and natural and man-made objects. This is one of the reasons I love to paint not during the magic hours of early morning or evening, but at high noon, when shadows on laundry, rusted tools, or branches are at their most intense.”

Kate Paper’s first artistic love was Beatrix Potter, whom she continues to be inspired by in addition to Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, Barbara Nechis, and Zoltan Szabo. Kate comments. “Before I begin a painting, I frequently page through books from these artists to get inspired, and also to see how they approached more difficult problems of composition and color.”
