Police Offer Tips To Prevent Thefts From Vehicles

The Central Marin Police Authority, which covers Corte Madera, Larkspur and San Anselmo, has seen a rise in thefts from vehicles this year.

MARIN COUNTY, CA – With a recent rise in thefts from vehicles, police are reminding residents to take preventative measures to help protect their property.

The Central Marin Police Authority – which covers Corte Madera, Larkspur, San Anselmo and portions of Greenbrae – has seen an increase in thefts from vehicles this year, including unlocked cars and window smashes. In a community alert, police said most daytime thefts are window smashes, which often occur at shopping centers and gyms, while most nighttime thefts are unlocked vehicles parked on streets in front of homes.

"We are modifying our patrol practices to help address this issue however, the best way to reduce these crimes are for our residents and visitors to take preventative measures," police said. "Please lock your vehicles and do not leave anything visible that would appear to have any value such as any large bag or luggage."

  • Never leave anything valuable or visible in the car.
  • Take your purse, wallet, backpack, electronics and GPS device out of the car.
  • Never leave house keys in the vehicle or have your garage door opener in plain sight.
  • Remember to lock your car doors, even when your car is parked at home in your driveway.

Residents are advised to report suspicious activity or sounds, especially in the middle of the night, by calling police dispatch at 415-927-5150 or 911.
