Opened in 1998 by Matthew Boussina (“Matteo”) Taco Jane’s was named after his mother, an elementary school teacher who was known for her taco recipes when the family vacationed in Rosarita, Mexico. Matteo, who grew up in the Bay Area – first in San Francisco and later in Tiburon, credits his inspiration to his father, Perry, who immigrated to the U.S. from Iran in the late 50’s when he was 19 years old. His dad opened a number of bars and restaurants in San Francisco and today still owns a popular bar in the Marina district.
“My father taught me an important work ethic through his own experiences and as a self made business owner,” said Matthew Boussina, owner of TACO JANE’S. “I continue to follow my dream and look forward to going to work every day. My mother was also an inspiration because on our family trips to Mexico, she’d make the most delicious Mexican Red Snapper tacos. From the moment we started calling her Taco Jane I knew I wanted my own restaurant one day to be named after her.”
Taco Jane’s is known for its authentic, regional Mexican cuisine that represents a mix of new Mexican as well as traditional dishes from throughout the country, focusing on a slow cook style and using special marinades, homemade moles and sauces. Taco Jane’s patrons can also enjoy the added bonus of listening to some of the great music of Cuba and seeing the stunning photographs on the wall from Matteo’s visit to the country.
