Tie Down Your Valentine's Day Balloons: PG&E Reminder

BAY AREA, CA – PG&E officials are urging residents to keep metallic balloons from floating away this Valentine's Day because if a balloon hits a power line property might be damaged and someone might be injured.

A balloon that hits a power line might disrupt service to a whole neighborhood.

PG&E officials suggest tying a weight to a balloon or bundle of balloons to keep them from rising.

The officials said that in company's service area last year, 503 power outages were caused by metallic balloons, cutting service to more than 265,000 customers.

Metallic balloons are different than latex balloons because they can stay afloat and be a threat to power lines for two to three weeks.
