The Marin County coroner's office has identified a woman who died in a vehicle collision Friday night as Tawny Crist, 71, of Banning in Riverside County.

Crist was driving a Kia Optima east on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in unincorporated Marin County east of Samuel P. Taylor State Park at 8:55 p.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Andrew Barclay said.

For an unknown reason, the Kia drifted to the right, struck a tree and turned onto its left side, Barclay said.

The Kia then slid into the westbound lane of the road and was struck on the roof by a westbound Honda CRV that was unable to stop in time, Barclay said. Crist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision closed Sir Francis Drake Boulevard until 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Barclay said.
