Yin Yoga is Growing In San Anselmo

What is Yin Yoga and why is a "Power Yoga Studio" promoting Yin?
In the words of Helaine Shias, yoga teacher at Marin Power Yoga in San Anselmo, "there are two principles that differentiate yin practice from more yang approaches to yoga: holding poses for at least several minutes and stretching the connective tissue around a joint. To do the latter, the overlying muscles must be relaxed. If the muscles are tense, the connective tissue won’t receive the proper stress."
Deep Stretching is critical to muscle recovery. Yin is a great compliment to our daily yoga practice. It is important to stay active and lengthen our muscles as we age, Yin is the way to stay loose and experience the benefits of yoga without all of the Chaturangas (High Plank to Low Plank or a Yoga Push-Up). Starting January of 2014 we will have 2 pure Yin Classes on the schedule and 2 Yinasa classes that blend the Yin practice with some standing poses. Go Deep, Go Yin.
