Things to Know: Get Tickets Now for Father Daughter Dance

Tickets for the city's upcoming Father Daughter Dance are now on sale, sign up to take the Polar Bear Plunge and, seniors, get your blood pressure checked—for free.

Here are some important things happening around town that everyone should know about during the upcoming weeks.

Friday, Jan. 27. 9:30-11 a.m. The senior center will be having free blood pressure checks for seniors 60 and older. The program is sponsored by Senior Focus, Mills-Peninsula Health Services and the San Mateo County Aging and Adult Services Agency. For more information, call 650-616-7151.

Saturday, Jan. 28. 8:30 a.m. Take a "plunge" in the unheated San Bruno Park Pool for the city's annual Polar Bear Plunge. The event will benefit the Youth Scholarship Fund. The price for the event is $20. For more information, call 650-616-7180.

Saturday, Feb 4. 5:30-8:30 p.m. The annual Father Daughter Dinner Dance will be taking place at the senior center. Spend a special night with your daughter, enjoy a delicious dinner and then dance into the night together.  $55 per father-daugther couple and $12 for each additional person. The vector district's November-December 2011 Monthly Entomology Report summarizing recent and ongoing activities, as well as offering a DEET DEFENSE tip, is attached.
