SUBJECT: Schedule Study Session Meetings to Review the Proposed Fiscal Year 2018-19 Annual Operating and Capital Improvement Program Budgets

BACKGROUND:

Each fiscal year, the City Council conducts special budget Study Session meetings to review and consider the City's proposed annual Operating and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Budgets for the upcoming fiscal year. The Study Session meetings provide the City Council an opportunity to review and consider issues related to the preparation of the fiscal year 2018-19 Operating Budget and to provide staff with direction. In previous years, the City Council has utilized two Study Session meetings of approximately 2 hours each in early June for review of the annual budgets.

The proposed 2018-19 Operating and Capital Improvement Program Budgets are scheduled to be presented for Public Hearing and for City Council consideration for approval on June 12 and June 26 respectively.

DISCUSSION:

Staff is recommends the City Council identify three dates to hold Study Sessions in early June to allow sufficient time for the budget review process. At the scheduled Study Session meetings, staff will present the Operating and Capital Improvement Program Budgets for City Council review. Each meeting will be scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. depending upon City Councilmember availability.

The following dates have been identified as possible options to conduct the 2018-19 Budget Study Session meetings:

Thursday, June 7, 2018

Monday, June 11, 2018

Tuesday, June 12, 2018 (before Regular City Council meeting)

Wednesday, June 13, 2018

Thursday, June 14, 2018

Monday, June 18, 2018

Tuesday, June 19, 2018

Wednesday, June 20, 2018

The budget will be presented for final City Council review and approval on June 26, 2018, the second regular City Council meeting in June.
