60 Drivers Cited In 1-Day Peninsula Speeding Crackdown

Breaking: Police say that officers fanned out across town to conduct a special traffic safety operation.

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Dozens of speeding motorists were cited in a special South San Francisco traffic enforcement operation this week, police say. The crackdown focused on slowing speeding drivers in town.

On Monday, police officers fanned out across South San Francisco. In total, 60 speeding citations were issued along with four citations for people caught driving without a license, according to police. Another person was ticketed for driving on a suspended license.

"During the crackdown, officers targeted roadways in the city that are known complaint areas and/or streets that have high injury or fatality traffic collision rates where speed was the primary cause of the accident," SSFPD Lt. Jon Kallas said in a news release.

Those ultimately busted for speeding on Monday were driving on average 15 mph over the posted speed limit, Kallas said.

"The goal of these operations is to remind motorists to drive with caution, obey the speed limit and drive safely," he said.
