Burglary Suspect Allegedly Tries to Run Down San Bruno Police Officer

Police say the man drove his vehicle at an officer who was on foot.

SAN BRUNO, CA – A 25-year-old San Francisco man is facing an assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer charge after he allegedly tried to ram a vehicle into a member of the San Bruno Police Department.

According to San Bruno Police Lt. Troy Fry, the incident happened Wednesday in the 500 block of El Camino Real. Police were sent to the scene after getting a report of a car burglary in progress.

"Officers responded to the scene and initiated a traffic stop of the suspect vehicle," Fry said in a news release. "The driver failed to yield to officers and drove his vehicle at an officer who was on foot."

At that point, the officer shot one time at the vehicle, and the suspect sped off, Fry said. Neither person was hit.

A brief pursuit ensued, with the CHP joining in, and ended in San Francisco, according to Fry. Vernon Evans-Carmichael was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail on charges of assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon, possession of stolen property, evading a police officer. He also was booked on outstanding warrants.
