REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - The Caldwell Gallery “Happenstance” – the graphic images of photographer Nathalie Strand Nathalie Strand moved from France to California in 1999, after studying at l’Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris, training in Lithography and Sculpture. She graduated in Traditional Illustration at the Academy of Art in San Francisco in 2005. As an illustrator and a graphic designer, Nathalie has always been drawn to very graphic images. She started taking pictures at age 15, and already was interested in details, corners, lines, shadows, stains. Her latest photography work is a composite series which blends figurative pictures and photos of textures or details. “When merged, they surprise me into telling stories I didn’t even know existed. There is a big element of chance in the process, as the pictures are taken separately, with no specific end goal in mind. This process is always unexpected, exciting and enigmatic. Give the same camera and the same subject matter to two photographers and you will always get two different pictures, different view points, different emotions, different stories. Combine two pictures from the same photographer together, and you get even more different stories. The possibilities are endless… I am also an exhausted mother of 9 year-old twin girls, and an “Apple” wife”.

The Rotunda Gallery, located at the entrance of 555 County Center just across the plaza from The Hall of Justice, will be showing the sculptural works of Paul Powell. Paul Powell is creating one of a kind works of art in his hometown of Redwood City. He spends numerous hours searching for discarded materials and special lumber long forgotten by the logging crews who fell them years ago. Pauls’ ability to create such unique pieces of art comes from his strong imagination, which has been influenced by J.R. Tolken and his work. Paul’s artistic nature shows in all of his pieces big or small. He takes his time to work out every little detail until it’s just right. The exhibit will run until June 28, 2018.
