From the San Mateo Police Department in cooperation with our City Partners in the San Mateo Fire Department and the San Mateo Department of Parks and Recreation:
• ZERO TOLERANCE ON FIREWORKS - In the City of San Mateo, it is illegal to possess, store, offer for sale, expose for sale, sell at retail, use, or explode any fireworks, including “safe and sane” fireworks. The intent of the law is to prevent injury, maintain order in our neighborhoods, prevent fire or damage to structures and/or vegetation. Patrols by our City of San Mateo Park Rangers, Police, and Fire Department will be patrolling our City and “on the lookout” for fireworks. This is a zero-tolerance issue - violators will be cited.
• PARK CLOSURES - The Parks and Recreation Department wants to remind everyone that the same laws apply to all City Parks. Some City Parks will additionally be patrolled by City of San Mateo Park Rangers. Ryder Park, Parkside Aquatic Park, and Seal Point Park will be closed from 6 PM throughout the evening until the following day. As a reminder, ALL City parks are closed after 10 PM.
• TRAFFIC - This is a heavy travel time both inside of the City and out – expect heavy traffic and parking congestion in the areas of our city parks and areas bordering our neighbors in Foster City prior to their fireworks display. Plan your travel accordingly.
WORK AS A TEAM AND PROTECT YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD
Please help us make your neighborhood safer and take a stand against crime. Please report all criminal behavior, join a neighborhood watch program, and help anyone that might fall victim to a crime. If a Neighborhood Watch doesn’t exist on your block, you can start one with help from SMPD.
