Coming to City Hall – “The Independence of Switzerland” Tableau (1915)
On January 23, “The Independence of Switzerland”, a wooden hand carving (tableau), will be installed and displayed in the lobby of City Hall.

The tableau was carved from a single piece of solid Honduran Mahogany by Francois Xavier Perroset in 1915, and it was displayed at the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition held in San Francisco.

Mr. Perroset immigrated to San Francisco from Switzerland at the age of 38. In the early 1900’s, he purchased property in “Cupid’s Row”, the heart shaped development of San Bruno now known affectionately as “The Heart of the City”. Sometime thereafter, he built a home and workshop at 324 Florida Avenue and moved his family to San Bruno. The City of San Bruno acquired the property from Mr. Perroset’s Granddaughter and her husband and the tableau was included as part of the property. The home, workshop and other structures on the property have been removed and the site will be the home of the future Florida Avenue Neighborhood Park.
There may be a short-term disruption to accessibility to City Hall from Linden Avenue as well as lobby access at City Hall during the installation on January 23.
