Drugged Driver Crashes Dump Truck Into San Bruno Senior Center, Caught With Meth: Police

San Bruno police say the man drove a commercial dump truck right into the building, causing major damage. (BREAKING)

SAN BRUNO, CA — An Alameda man is accused of crashing a dump truck into the San Bruno Senior Center, while allegedly high on drugs Monday afternoon, police report. The suspect was not licensed to drive the vehicle, according to authorities.

It all happened around 2:43 p.m., when the large vehicle went bursting through the building at 1555 Crystal Springs Road, according to San Bruno Police Lt. Ryan Johansen.

"Upon arrival, Officers located a commercial dump truck that had collided into a portion of the Senior Center," Johansen said in a news release Monday night.

The driver, identified as 55-year-old Joseph Sivils of Alameda, was contacted and "...found to be under the influence of a controlled substance," Johansen said, adding that officers found methamphetamine in the man's possession.

"He was arrested and issued a Notice to Appear for charges related to driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, and driving a vehicle outside of his classified driver’s license," the lieutenant said.

As a result of the wreck, the senior center suffered major damage and will be temporarily closed, officials said.
