D.Tech Update

UPDATE:

What has d.tech been up to?

You haven’t heard much from us lately because we've been busy with lots of great activities and events, as we prep for the rapidly approaching start of school on August 11th. Here are a few of the things we’ve been up to:

  1. Our first official staff professional development week - June 26-July 3
  2. Student event and d.tech fundraiser at Rockin’Jump (we earned $350!)
  3. “Day at d.tech” - 20 students came to ck-12 to try out d.tech curriculum and work with their teachers for a day. It was lots of fun and great feedback for the teachers and staff! Thanks to ck-12 for hosting & feeding us!
  4. “Help design the d.tech space” - 20 students worked with our awesome architecture firm, gouldevans, to give them some insights into the needs and desires of our students (staff did a similar session with the architects after the student session). Check out this tumblr site to see pics from this event.http://dtechschool.tumblr.com/
  5. Coffee chats to help those “on the fence” decide if d.tech is right for their student (thanks to our families who hosted these)
  6. Finishing up the enrollment process with new students (we have only 10 spots left to reach our goal of 150). Please forward this on to anyone who might be interested.
  7. Hiring the rest of our staff (we’re now fully staffed with a stellar crew! Ken will introduce them all to you, via an email, next week.)
  8. Moving over to Mills - the d.tech staff is now using a couple of our classrooms. We should get access to the rest next week once summer school is over. In fact, we’re moving some donated furniture there on Friday, the 18th (if you happen to have a large truck and some time to help, please contact Christy atcknott@dtechhs.org).
  9. And so much more!!

Looking for more ways to get involved with d.tech??

Builders - we need you!

We’re looking for a few skilled builders (with tools) who can come help us as we work with gouldevans to prep our space! The date is next Saturday, July 26th, from 9am-3pm. Please email cknott@dtechhs.org if you can help with this, and we’ll let you know if we are still in need of your skills. Thanks!

Intersessions at d.tech

We are excited about our intersession program which partners experts in various fields with our teachers to engage students in active, unique learning experiences. Our two-week intersession classes will be offered four times during the school year: October 6-17, December 8-18, January 5 - 16, and March 16-27.  Classes are tentatively scheduled to meet M-F, from 9 am - 12 pm and/or 12:45 pm - 3:45 pm.

Please email Wendy Little at wlittle@dtechhs.org with contact information for yourself or others you know who might be a great fit for this opportunity. Wendy will set up a time for further discussion about how you or your colleagues can help support d.tech's Intersession program. Thanks!

Writing Coaches needed

Design Tech’s 150 young writers need your help - and your feedback - on their writing. Don’t think you have to be a grammar maven or a wordsmith to lend a hand. Students need feedback on logic, flow, clarity, quality of evidence and overall effect on audience.  If you are interested in learning more about becoming a writing coach to our incoming 9th grade students, please click here to read more.
