REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - The Caldwell Gallery presents “Illuminating Insights” by Peninsula artist Sloane Joseph.
Sloane Joseph was born and raised in Redwood City, California. She decided to pursue her MFA in painting and drawing at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco in 2014.. It was here that Sloane found a proper balance between the increased knowledge of her field and the motivation and precise feedback from her professors. She graduated with her MFA in Spring 2017
Since graduating she has worked for an art and framing retailer. Being a framer has allowed her to meet hundreds of other artists, see thousands of art pieces from around the world and hear the stories behind the art which is motivational for her own work. She is especially interested in sunlight and the shadows it creates. These behaviors of light are what she enjoys representing and she typically works in morning or sunset lighting. Sloane expresses her lively style through the expert use of oils and pastels
Sloane was awarded Exhibitor of the Year from the San Mateo County Fair in 2010 for her numerous awarded entries as well as for her favored works in the show. She participated as a Mural Designer for the Girl Scouts of American in Redwood City, CA in 2007 and was invited to show her work at the Pancakes and Booze collaborative art show in 2015 and 2016. She had work in a show at the Fox Theater in downtown Redwood City back in May of this year. Sloane recently has started a family and looks forward to combining her art with her new life.

The Community Gallery, located on the lower level of the Hall of Justice building will be showing “BAY AREA PAINTED: Landscapes by Mark Monsarrat”
The exhibit will run from January 11 through February 27, 2018.
As a longtime plein-air and studio painter of traditional oil landscapes, Mark Monsarrat works in the tonal-colorist Craftsman style, inspired by 19th century romantic landscape painters and the early 20th-century California Impressionists. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, with backgrounds in engineering and business administration, Monsarrat is a true Renaissance Man. He holds five college degrees, including a BFA from the California College of the Arts, an MFA from the Academy of Art in San Francisco, plus numerous plein-air workshops with noted artists over the years.
Mark paints outdoors "en plein air" and inside his studio, garnering many awards at art shows and plein-air competitions throughout the Bay Area. He also teaches classes and private lessons, demonstrations and workshops, and is represented by various galleries in Bay Area and beyond.

The Rotunda Gallery, located at the entrance of 555 County Center just across the plaza from The Hall of Justice, will be showing the sculptural works of Paul Powell.
Paul Powell is creating one of a kind works of art in his hometown of Redwood City. He spends numerous hours searching for discarded materials and special lumber long forgotten by the logging crews who fell them years ago. Pauls’ ability to create such unique pieces of art comes from his strong imagination, which has been influenced by J.R. Tolken and his work. Paul’s artistic nature shows in all of his pieces big or small. He takes his time to work out every little detail until it’s just right.
The exhibit will run from January 12 to June 28, 2018.
