Farmers' Market: Honey, Melons, Honeydew Melons

Pick up produce grown in the heat of the summer.

Growers who participate in the Sunday will share a stroke of good luck with shoppers: an early crop of melons.

Insteel will perform, and shoppers can have fun with the Facebook page secret word of the day. Tell the market manager the word of the day and win prizes.

After shopping, swing by the information booth and pick up recipes for the fruits and vegetables grown in the summer heat—cucumber cherry salad, for instance, Asian pear and watercress salad with sesame dressing, or caramelized peaches with homemade blueberry sauce.

“Extra 5″ offers farmers’ market customers an extra $5 when they spend at least $10 on their CalFresh (food stamp) cards at selected farmers’ markets operated by partners at the Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market Association. The goal of this project is to encourage CalFresh recipients to take advantage of fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables.
