Who's Who and What's What
1. The city is constantly looking for residents interested in serving on various commissions, boards and committees. Vacancies develop throughout the year and your application listing your committees of interest will be kept for a year and as openings develop. The application is attached. They should be returned to the City Clerk’s office in City Hall. Email vhasha@sanbrunoca.gov or send a fax to 650-589-5941 for more questions.
2. Assemblyman Jerry Hill, who represents the residents of San Bruno, recently honored San Mateo Marine Corps veteran Justin Chavez as the 2012 Veteran of the Year for Hill's district. Chavez received the honor for his work helping other veterans find work and homes.
3. The yearly firebreak goat-eating along the east side of the Seventh Avenue property lines of Mills Field, provided by SFO, has begun just in time for the Fourth of July fireworks time. They will likely not complete the entire West of Bayshore area before the Fourth. The entire process can take anywhere from two to three weeks, depending on the depth of the growth. The goat herder has clear instructions to maintain the goats within the 2- foot perimeter and to move them as quickly as he can down the property.
4. The City Council at its Tuesday meeting received a presentation from Scott Laurence, the superintendent of the San Mateo Union High School District, who talked about the high school district's facility planning efforts, which include the future of Peninsula Hign. Laurence is looking for community input and said that residents can send their recommendations to City Manager Connie Jackson at cjackson@sanbruno.ca.gov.
