The San Bruno Community Services Department is hiring for the 2017-2018 school year for the After School Program. We are looking for Recreational Leaders to assist with homework, lead activities, and plan enrichment classes. Candidates need to commit to working Monday through Friday 2:30 PM - 6:00 PM. Please apply at the Veterans Memorial Building located at 251 City Park Way or call (650) 616-7180 for more information.

We can provide assistance with general eBook, computer, and mobile device topics; repair is not included. Computers are available at the Library or bring your own device. Reservations required. Bilingual Parent-Child Activity Group/Grupo de Actividades para Padres e Hijos Friday 10 AM (ages 0-2) For children ages 0-2 and their parent or caregiver. Para niños de 0 a 2 años de edad y sus padres o cuidador principal. Presented by StarVista and First 5, San Mateo County. No group January 5.

San Bruno Library Homework Center

Students, get a jump start on the new year and sign up for the Homework Center! The Homework Center is a drop-in after school place to get homework done. There are computers for you to use, and it's a great place to work on a poster or school project. Printing is free for homework-related projects. The Center re-opens on January 8 after the holiday break with regular hours (M-W 3-6; TH 1:30-6). Closed on library and school holidays (such as January 15). Volunteer homework helpers are available. On Thursday afternoons we serve a small snack and have an art or science activity. From 4-5PM On January 25 and February 1, prepare a healthy snack and eat it too in a special workshop from Leah's Pantry--just for registered Homework Center participants (and their adults). Register anytime by filling out the permission slip/registration form available at the library. For students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. The homework center is a free, drop-in program. It is not after-school care.

Retirement and Wealth Preservation

Retirement: We will discuss the concepts behind retirement savings vehicles, as well as evaluate the advantages and disadvantages that come with each program, so people can make better decisions about their long term savings.

Healthcare: Healthcare is becoming a mounting concern, and we will talk about what that can encompass at retirement, as well as how the health care system supports people at retirement and also the options that people have to manage their health care costs to preserve their assets.

Estate Planning: An eye opening discussion about who needs it, what it encompasses, and how it can affect generations of one's family.

Paws for Tales

Paws for Tales is the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA's (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) reading to dogs program where therapy dogs and their handlers work with children (ages 5 and up) in library and school settings. Studies show that children who are reluctant to read in front of peers because of their skills are much less anxious with an animal present. Dogs offer unconditional love: they are not intimidating or judgmental. They are the perfect reading companion. Just drop in! Leah’s Pantry Food Smarts Nutrition Workshop

January 23–April 3
Tuesdays 6:30PM–7:30PM

San Bruno Library Join us for six evenings of learning, eating, sharing and fun! We’ll discuss how to cheaply and simply prepare nutritious foods. And we’ll have a snack together! All are welcome. Kids please bring your grown-up. Made possible by a grant from Seton Medical Center.

Senior Center Programs will be closed on January 1 for New Year’s Day and January 15 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Senior Advisory Board Nominations
Board members provide oversight and coordination of programs and activities at the Senior Center. Applications for two Board positions will be accepted at the Senior Center beginning January 2 through January 16. Members serve two years and must be 50 or older and residents of San Bruno for two years.
