John Muir Raymond V. Stagnaro Award for 2014 Winner

Wednesday June 11th 2014 as part of the John Muir Elementary School promotion from 5th grade event, principal Dr. Fran Dunleavy shared the following with the students, parents, and friends in attendance at John Muir:

"This year, I am proud to announce the presentation of the annual Raymond V. Stagnaro, Be Aware and Care Award. This recognition was created by Mrs. Louise Stagnaro, in memory of her husband who was the long time principal of John Muir. 

Mr. Stagnaro worked in the San Bruno Park School District for 40 years, from 1960 to the year 2000.  He began as a teacher and then counselor at Parkside Intermediate School.  He then became the Vice Principal of Engvall Intermediate.   Mr. Stagnaro’s longest position in the school district was the 21 years he spent as principal of John Muir Elementary.  Mr. Stagnaro loved John Muir School.  During his 21 years here, he established this warm and welcoming community in which families and students work cooperatively for the betterment of all.  Mr. Stagnaro taught us; staff, students, and parents to notice things around us, to be concerned and to do the right thing.  He summed it up in our school motto, Be Aware and Care. 

The criteria for the Raymond V. Stagnaro Be Aware and Care Award are scholarship, citizenship, and service.   The committee was to recognize a student, who, over time has been active in school activities while achieving academic excellence.  I’d like to announce our 2014 recipient, Amber Bussani.  

Amber has been selected for this award because she embodies Mr. Stagnaro’s motto, Be Aware and Care.  Amber entered John Muir School in kindergarten. She has continuously achieved academic excellence, I know, I checked her cum file.  Amber has been a good class citizen and strong, active member of our school community.  She has participated in numerous school activities; such as student council, School Beautification, Family Night Dinners, movie nights, Pancake Breakfasts, carnivals, ice cream socials and more. Amber has served our community in a variety of ways.  She has been a student council representative, a student council officer, a member of the organics and recycling team, and a member of the safety patrol.  She also covered Mrs. Peckham’s desk once a week.  Amber has always been very conscientious. She always makes sure she fulfills her duties.  Just yesterday, during the fifth grade party, she came into the office to see if she was needed at Mrs. Peckham’s desk.  Amber, you also receive this gift card to Barnes and Noble, and an engraved plaque.  Your name has also been engraved on this perpetual plaque, which will hang in our cafeteria."
