Kids' Day at the Farmers' Market
This week's celebrity fruit: the raspberry, in all hues.

It’s Kids Day Sunday at the downtown , which means two big jump houses, a kids cooking demonstration, a face painter, sidewalk chalk art and lots of patriotic coloring activities.
The week’s featured produce is raspberries. Raspberries grow naturally in North America in black, purple, and golden hues as well as red. The raspberry is actually an "aggregate fruit," containing many tiny seed-filled fruits in one berry.
Raspberries' delicate balance of sweetness and tartness makes them a great addition to salads and desserts (Click here for recipes from the Pacific Coast Farmers Market Association).

This week, the market welcomes the San Mateo Beekeepers Co-op to its lineup of producers. The newly-formed association of 20 backyard beekeepers sells fresh honeycomb, bee pollen, and unfiltered wildflower honey.
