Lose Yourself in Sweet Treats and Coffee
Local coffee shops make for a casual escape any day of the week.
While it’s said that home is where the heart is, there are times when home can unfortunately also be where the stress is. The leaky faucet that has needed fixing for days, the growing mountain of bills, the pile of school uniforms that needed washing yesterday—all tangible reminders of your to-do list that are smack in your face at home.
Sometimes, when you really need a simple retreat to your own little oasis, the house is not the best option. One of my favorite affordable and accessible escapes is to hit the coziest local coffee shop with a book and treat myself to a few glorious hours where work and obligations can’t touch me. For those on the Peninsula, San Bruno’s Café provides a home-like atmosphere minus the responsibility.
The family-owned and operated coffee shop has plenty of tables and couches to hunker down at for an afternoon, either with your latest literary endeavor or with the laptop (to do some non-work related Internet surfing, of course). Enjoy an organic coffee or tea out of a real ceramic mug, delight in their sweet and savory crepes—made in-house—or simply veg out and people-watch by the windows or by the television. And what helps melt away worries better than taking your time with a piece of cake heaped high with Mitchell’s ice cream?

Much more than a local dessert spot, this coffee shop can be the perfect escape for a rainy morning or any time you just need a break from home.
