Major Injuries in San Bruno Hit-and-Run, Pedestrian Hospitalized: Police

Police say they found an unconscious man lying on El Camino Real following the early morning crash. [BREAKING]

SAN BRUNO, CA – A man was hospitalized in serious condition Wednesday after his was hit while walking near a Peninsula thoroughfare, police report. Meanwhile, the driver suspected of fleeing the scene has been nabbed in a neighboring city.

According to San Bruno Police Sgt. Ryan Johansen, the incident happened around 2:15 a.m. in the area of El Camino Real and Citation Avenue.

"Upon their arrival, officers located a forty-two year old male lying in the roadway who was unconscious and suffering from significant injuries," Johansen said in a news release. "The vehicle involved in this collision had fled the scene."

The unidentified pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital for major injuries, but he is expected to recover, according to the sergeant.

Though the driver who hit the man fled, police say they tracked down a suspect "within a few hours."

"Officers located the involved vehicle and its driver in the City of South San Francisco," Johansen said. "The driver of the involved vehicle, Jethro Abreu, a 42-year-old South San Francisco resident, was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail for charges related to felony hit and run resulting in serious injury."
