SAN MATEO COUNTY MOSQUITO AND VECTOR CONTROL DISTRICT –
TEST RESULTS NOW NEGATIVE FOR WEST NILE
The City of San Mateo received information regarding the recent discovery of a positive test of mosquitos carrying West Nile Virus. The San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector Control District took some measures to address this information last Thursday evening June 20th.
San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector Control District confirmed on today, June 23rd that the results of mosquitoes tested for West Nile Virus are negative. The District does not plan to further treat the area where mosquitoes tested positive for WNV last week. More information about next steps and preventing mosquitoes from breeding and biting can be found on the City’s website http://www.cityofsanmateo.org/ as well as the District’s site http://www.smcmad.org/. As a precautionary measure, the District will continue to test mosquitoes for West Nile Virus throughout the summer. The District will provide advance warning if further treatment is needed.
COMMUNITY MESSAGING – PROTOCOLS IN PLACE FOR TIMELY PUBLIC SAFETY INFORMATION
SMPD and The City of San Mateo received some feedback (disappointment) from the community in regard to the messaging systems used following the Vector Control District’s media release late Thursday. Due to the late hour of the Vector Control District’s release, we were unable to use all of our available platforms to forward this important information. Our communications specialists here at the City of San Mateo worked hard through the weekend to ensure that protocols are in place to get important information like this out quickly to the maximum audience possible through multiple media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, Nixle, SMCAlert and NextDoor. We hope that you, our residents partners in the community, were not adversely affected. We assure you that our goal remains to provide timely, accurate information to the broadest community audience.
