Dr. Rogers comes to us from Fontana Unified School District in San Bernardino County. She holds a doctorate from Capella University. Dr. Rogers’ breadth of experience includes moving a large, low performing elementary school with a demographic of low income and English Language Learners, to new heights of performance. For example, her elementary school was the first elementary school in the Fontana Unified School District to implement inclusive practices for students with disabilities. Under her leadership, attendance increased from a low of being ranked 29th out of 44 schools to 4th in that district with attendance at consistently over 97%. Additionally, she has created an award-winning school-wide system of behavioral and academic support. In a community like ours, partnerships are important. Valerie brings this skill set having created and leveraging community partnerships with categorical resources to provide education and training support for parents; and under her leadership she has worked closely with growing parent engagement through the PTA that had 10 members when Dr. Rogers became principal to over 300 members, recognized as the fastest growing PTA in California.
Dr. Rogers received her Doctorate in Philosophy, Education with Specialization in Curriculum and Instruction in 2014. She has completed Specialized Training in numerous fields including Building Professional Learning Communities, Essential Elements of Instruction, Personnel Administration, and California School Business Officials training. She is a member of the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA), Association for Supervision and Curriculum and Development (ASCD) and the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM).
Dr. Rogers’ appointment is effective March 19, 2018. “I am very pleased to join San Bruno Park School District at this pivotal time in the District’s transformation of teaching and learning in San Bruno schools. This is a challenging but exciting time for taking the delivery of curriculum in the District to a higher level for all students we serve.”
Dr. Rogers' success as an educational leader, combined with her personal thirst for knowledge, aligns perfectly with the District’s mission to educate and empower all students to thrive academically, socially and emotionally to be contributing members of society.
