Riechel Reports.... Can YOU Count? Counters Needed - Jan 26 2017

Spend a few hours and help count. Volunteers needed

Subject: HELP US COUNT:

2017 Homeless One Day Count

On Thursday, January 26, 2017 from approximately 6 am to 10 am, the San Mateo County Human Services Agency will conduct its biennial One Day Homeless Count. The One Day Homeless Count is a census and survey of unsheltered homeless people conducted in collaboration with community and County partners.

The results from the count will provide us with a better understanding of the number of homeless individuals and families and their needs. Collecting strong data on the number, characteristics, and service needs of homeless people in our community is a vital component of local planning and program development to meet the County’s goal to end homelessness by 2020.

Because this is the first year that we will conduct the census and survey simultaneously, it is particularly critical to build a broad base of volunteers who play a critical role in the census and survey to collect accurate data. Any HSA employee interested in participating on County time will need to get approval from his/her supervisor. Each branch director has the discretion to authorize staff to use County time for this event or not, depending on the department operations to ensure no impact to client services. The time commitment to participate would be approximately 2-2.5 hours for training and 4-5 hours on the day of the count. If approved, sign up as a Team Member to assist in tallying and administering surveys to homeless individuals in a particular coverage area throughout the County. All participants will receive a 2-2.5 hour mandatory training in the weeks leading up to the One Day Homeless Count.

More information regarding training times and locations will be coming soon. Once approved by your supervisor to participate, sign up here:http://hsavolunteers.ivolunteer.com/smconedaycount2017
