After a successful 42-year run, San Bruno restaurant Don Pico’s Mexican Bistro & Cevicheria will be closing its doors for good, owner Lucy Mejia announced on January 26, 2017. Mejia, the wife of the late Isaac Mejia, made the difficult business decision after running the Mexican restaurant herself for over 4 years.
“I’m so grateful to our loyal customers, who continued to come in after my husband passed in 2012,” stated Mejia. “It’s been a good run.”

Mejia returned full-time to the practice of law in November 2016 and decided to let go of the restaurant to pursue her law career and other business projects. Mejia plans to retain the name and logo of Don Pico’s, and to market food products and write a Don Pico’s cookbook in the near future.
Don Pico’s will remain open for one more month, until February 26, 2017, and will honor all gift cards through that date.
Taking the spot at 461 El Camino Real will be an as-yet-unnamed Peruvian restaurant to be run by Pachi Calvo y Perez, the former owner and chef of Pachi’s on 19th Avenue in San Francisco. Calvo y Perez is part owner and Executive Chef at the South Harbor Waterfront Restaurant and Bar in South San Francisco. He is the brother of Julio Calvo-Perez, whose family owns the Fresca restaurants in San Francisco and Puerto 27 in Pacifica. Pachi Calvo y Perez and the late Isaac Mejia were close friends who traveled to Peru together on two culinary tours, in 2004 and 2009.
