Man Shot In Chest After Gun Struggle With Girlfriend: Police

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A South San Francisco man was shot in the chest Saturday and his girlfriend was arrested after they allegedly were arguing in a car and fighting over a firearm, according to authorities.

The 34-year-old victim was taken to a trauma center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries after the incident was reported at approximately 8:19 a.m. at a parking lot on the 110 block of Hickory Boulevard in South San Francisco, the South San Francisco Police Department said.

The man's girlfriend, identified as Jocelyn Rivera Penate, 22, also a South San Francisco resident, was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Main Jail on suspicion of possession of a loaded firearm and domestic assault, police said.

"At some point, the two began arguing and struggling over a firearm that was in the vehicle, and her boyfriend was subsequently shot in the chest," the department said. "Rivera Penate drove a short distance to friend's home and then called 911 to report the incident."
